Zahedi:

Also named ”Zahidi date” which is one of the most prominent dates produced in the Middle-East rejoin, especially in south west of Iran. In this reason, this date is one the most popular consumed dates in west Asia countries.  It is referred as one of the most delicious dry dates available in the markets.

Product detail:this date is relatively small but thick with oval appearance the size of around 3-3.5cm. It has a particular shape; relatively hard, shiny withyellow to brown skin color, and the skin has been mostly attachedto the flesh, while it can be sometimes separated from the flesh due to some weather conditions such as temperature and humidity.Because of their low moisture content of less than 12% (lower than the other types of dates) they are mostly referred as semi-dried products.

Zahedi dates are delicious and meaty, as they have significantly less sweetnesscompared to the alternative date varieties, they are significantly suitable for people who take care about diabet diet or are not further interested on sweet dates.

Main consumer markets:Zahedi date is one of the major types of semi-dried dates with a considerable high annual yield. The most amount of Zahedi dates are consumed in the domestic markets, however recently due to their high quality, delicious taste and less sugar content, it is considerably requested for export and international markets.

Storage condition and shelf life:At normal room temperature Zahedi can be kept within 18 to 24 months with intermittent fumigation. Sayer:

Sayer dates are another tasty type of dates produced in Iran which are also known as Saamaran, Stamaran, Samberun or Stamara Dates are very popular for export -as they account for about 65% of the produced dates in this country- and also because of their highest quality amongst different kinds of dates. Because of an special weather condition in Khuzestan Province a variety of dates is produced in this region like Zahedi ,but the main type in this province is Sayer date.

Product detail: Sayer Dates are considered semi-dried with a kind of unique sweet taste. They are generally oval and sometimes rectangular in shape and around 2-5 cm in length. Their colour beautifully changes from yellow to amber-coloured and at the end to dark brown or reddish during their ripeness period. They can be found in the market either un-pitted or pitted Sayer Date.

There is an important and excellent point concerning to Sayer Dates’ production in Khuzestan Province in Iran and it is that they are planted and grown without the use of any kinds of chemicals  and pesticides  with thoroughly organic quality.

Harvesting period: Sayer dates are mostly harvested from mid-October. 

Main consumer markets::  Despite of the fact that some kinds of dates are not much known in countries outside where they have been produced, due to some specific issues of Sayer Dates’ such as their high quality, special taste and export value, they are mostly available in the international markets in countries especially in Canada, Australia, New Zealand ,and England

Storage condition and shelf life:  Sayer Dates are semi-dried as they have a moisture content of less than 16 %, so that it is possible to keep them in a warm and tropical storage condition without any further requirements of freezing for about more than a year. Their dryness doesn’t mean that they need to be refrigerated and they can remain healthy for even two years without refrigeration and this typical characteristic has made this kind of date a valuable product for exportation as it  can reduce storage and transportation costs. Moreover, Sayer Dates can be also produced with organic condition; therefore they need some specific cares. It is then important that they not to be stored near chemicals, oil, and also food like garlics and fish which are potent, because they are sensitive and can attract odors which are likely to corrupt them. Their storing environment should also be dust-free.

Kabkab:

Kabkab Dates are somehow different from other kinds as they are distinguishably big, moist and high grade, because they are grown according to the special cultivating cares. Since they are mostly produced in the regions with tropical conditions, they are relatively bigger compared to other dates and with delicious and sweet taste.

Product detail: In contrast with most of the other types of dates, Kabkab Dates have a high moisture content of about 19%. These dates are long with 3.5 – 4 cm in length. They have an oval shape and their colour interestingly changes from yellow to dark brown according to their ripeness  period. Kabkab Dates have long and gray pits attached to their soft, fine flesh and because of that their skins are hard. They are famous for their sweet, delicious and syrupy taste.

Harvesting period: Kabkab Dates are mostly harvested in the middle of September.

Storage condition and shelf life:  Since, Kabkab Date consists relatively higher moisture, its keeping doesn’t need refrigeration. It can be stored for around 6 months under normal room temperature and this time can even be increased if dates be kept in a cold and dry place as well.

Rabbi:

Because of Iran’s special climatic condition a wide variety ranges of fruit can be found, and amongst them some kind of dates are exclusive to Iran like Rabbi dates produced with high quality in Sistan and Baluchestan province due to this region’s soil. Different kinds of dates grow in Iran like Stamaran, Shahani, Mazafati, and Kabkab, but Rabbi dates have the most economic value of all various kinds of dates in this country.

Product detail: Rabbi dates are available in different sizes but they are generally long, oval and about 3-5 cm in length. They have an appealing black colour and their skins are thin but meaty which attach to their flesh and lead them to have a soft texture. These dates are semi-dry and their moisture content is about 15%, but this is not the only kind, some of Rabbi dates are smaller in size, drier and very rigid. Generally Rabbi dates have an unique amazing and desirable flavor.

Harvesting period: They are mostly harvested from the mid of August till  the October

Uses: Rabbi dates is suitable for a wide range of usages. The simplest is eating them directly, but due to their amazing taste they can be also mixed by lots of different foodstuffs producing combinations with new and interesting tastes. They can also make delicious blends with desserts, cereal, bread, cakes, cookies, or even ice creams. It’s interesting to know that superfluous dates from production are usefully utilized by changing into paste, powder(date sugar), cubes, spread, syrup, jam, jelly, juice, alcohol, and vinegar. Some other products of these delicious dates are palm sugar, chocolate bars, fruit bars, and also specified soft drinks.
